The Third Ninja War was inevitable. There was no amount of planning or prevention that could undo the animosity and hatred that the villages had against each other. Even with the meeting of the Five Kages banding the ninja world in an impromptu alliance against a common enemy, with Akatsuki dealt with, the hurt feelings of the past rushed forward to present themselves in a most ugly way.
With a slight bit of trust developed, having gotten rid of the common enemy, there was no village that wasn't affected by what would soon follow. With small cells of enemy ninja still stationed in each village, no one could react in time. War began just as it always would, the lesson Naruto tried to teach to everyone easily forgotten at the pain and sorrow of the past, or just out of pure boredom.
Of those that had been against the war, against letting such events happening, there were few that could actually survive the bloody years of war. Naruto, seeing that no one had heeded his warning or even listened to the words of his sensei, lost it. With the brunt of the force of the war sprouting up in Leaf, Naruto was the first attacked by the other villages, being that he was the biggest threat to the opposing villages as he was the last remaining Jinchuuriki, he couldn't prevent his body from almost instantly sprouting 8 tails. The destruction that ensued was enough to shatter the Hidden Village of Leaf, the beast only contained when Naruto finally broke the strangle hold that the beast had on his body with the realization that he had not only that were around him, the enemy ninja, but many people that resided in the village. With the sorrow and weight of his actions burdening him, Naruto vanished in the night. Those that lived through his onslaught sought to get revenge against the enemy villages, which were already crippled by the penetrated defenses left by the first wave of attacks.
Sakura, putting aside her thirst for blood, disappeared just as Naruto did, seeking to bring him back. The war didn't last long. With the brunt of the damage done, it was only a matter of time until a mutual truce was established, a total of two years of small bouts of fighting leading to the truce. With the war put aside so that the Hidden Villages could recover, and restore balance to the once peaceful world, many people left their villages. Most talented ninja knew that war was indeed inevitable, and there would be no way to prevent it. It would only be perpetuated the longer that the villages stayed in a peaceful era. With a majority of those that did not crave blood and war leaving the villages, reconstruction was definitely crippled.
The Ninja World, though in reconstruction, will never be the same. And, if things go just as everyone who left their respective villages thinks, war will perpetuate itself again upon completion of reconstruction. Such is the way of man.
